The latest CMHC report shows Langford continues as the clear leader in housing supply/affordability with 404 housing starts for the year. Saanich is a distant second at 114 followed by Victoria’s 92. Bringing up the rear are Metchosin – 6; Esquimalt – 4; and Highlands a dismal 2 – a reflection of the community’s large lot policy, creating a lack of affordability. Saanich Council recently rejected small lot subdivisons and continues with the region’s most challenging and costly development processes.
Langford continues to have the most efficient development and building permit processes and forward-thinking density enabling young families to purchase new, energy efficient Built Green homes at the region’s most affordable prices.
